KISS: Greatest Hits albums through the times....

The
Originals (1976) A must among collectors, this is a vinyl compilation of the first three albums, with special inserts. Also comes in several different editions. I have a pretty worn one, sadly without any stickers or extra stuff. |

The Originals II (1977) *Japan
Only |

Double Platinum (1978) A decent collection, quite simple. Neil Bogard at Casablanca Records felt that KISS needed to redo Strutter, so it became "discoed", and aptly renamed "Strutter '78". |

The Best
of Solo Albums (1979) You guessed it, best of the solo albums. Did also come in many different versions through 1979-1980. I got a worn, German version. |

Killers (1982) Sort of new (some new tracks) but basically a compilation of older tracks, both live and studio. The new ones are "Nowhere to Run", "Partners in Crime", "I'm a Legend Tonight", "Down on Your Knees", all with Bob Kulick on lead guitar. |

Smashes, Trashes & Hits
(1988) Again, some new material, but a boring record as a whole. A little treat: features Eric Carr doing "Beth". |

KISS my Ass (1994) This is actually a tribute album, but counted as an offical release of the KISS catalogue(!) |

You wanted the best, you got
the best! (1997) Yet another one, but this is pretty "over-produced" in the way the songs sound. Not that I feel it damages the songs. Funny interview with Jay Leno at the end. |

Greatest Hits (1997) This UK-only compilation is actually titled Greatest Hits! Finally you say? Although I live here in the UK now, I couldn't be bothered to buy it. |

Greatest KISS (1997) Basically the same as "Greatest Hits", but containing new live-version of "Shout It Out Loud", which I don't particulary like... |
![]() |
Detroit Rock City Soundtrack (1999) Not really a KISS compilation, but with a lot of other bands contributing cover-versions of 70s-songs for the "KISS-film". |

KISS: The Box Set (2001) Proclaimed to be "The Mother of All Box Sets" this was hyped in every sense. A nice collection of five cd's full of tracks, lost and found. Every KISS-fan got to have this one. I got the "suitcase" edition. |

The Very Best of KISS (2003) Pretty good mix alltogether, okay to have in your car i.e. - Excellent cover design! |

We're a Happy Family - A Tribute
to The Ramones (2003) Although this is a tribute to the Ramones, it's still in the KISS discography. KISS (in this case Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and some other guy on sax) are covering a Ramones song titled "Do You Remember Rock'n Roll Radio". Pretty cool track, but I don't like to saxophone on it... |

The KISS Symphony (single disc,
2003) This is believe it or not, a compilation of the Alive IV-album, made as a single disc, and also with a bonus track, which is the Ramones-cover mentioned above. |

20th Century Masters: KISS Vol. 1 (2004) Oh, the loving (previous) record company of Universal decided there's always room for another compilation. -Hooorray! :p |

20th Century Masters: KISS Vol. 2 (2004) The second part of the "century-mix", an okay mix of tunes from the eighties. I guess it's ideal for all of those of you out there which like that era of KISS the best. This is not in my collection. |
